The author
Meet Billy
Scottish. Husband. Engineer by trade. Writer by the time life had quieted down enough to listen.
I’m William “Billy” Brown, though most people just call me Billy. I grew up in Methil, on the east coast of Scotland, and spent more than thirty years working around the world on some of the largest gas and LNG construction projects ever built.
I’m a husband first, a traveller second, a musician when the room is right, and an author because eventually the stories were louder than the silence.
Why I write
Because someone needed to say it plainly.
I didn’t set out to become an author. I set out to make sense of a few things for myself — the years abroad, the people I love, the mistakes I own, and the lessons that only arrived once I stopped moving long enough to hear them.
What I found was that most of the honest books I’d wanted to read at the hardest moments of my life didn’t exist. The shelves were full of theory, five-step plans and cheerful advice from people who had never lived the thing they were writing about. So I started writing the books I wished somebody had handed me.
I’m not a coach and I’m not a guru. I’m a bloke who has been around long enough to notice a few things worth writing down.
What to expect
Real stories. Real people. Real hope.
My books are written the way I speak — plainly, warmly, and without pretending life is simpler than it is. They’re short enough to read in an evening, but built to be kept and returned to.
You won’t find bullet-point advice or industry jargon. You’ll find honest company for the ordinary human things — love, loss, family, distance, second chances, the long middles of long relationships, and the quiet mornings that follow the loud years.
If any of that sounds like the kind of writing you’d be glad to have on your shelf, you’re very welcome here.
