Chapter One

From the opening pages

Three books in, and I still find it strange to write from here. If you’ve read the first two, you’ll know the man who sat at that kitchen table, who went to the doctor, who spent a long, undramatic middle learning to stand up straight again. He’s still in me. But he’s no longer the one making most of the decisions.

This book is about what came after the long middle — not the crisis, not the slow rebuild, but the part where you actually get to choose something on purpose. A relationship. A life. A version of love that isn’t reaching for relief or proof or rescue, but is simply, plainly, wanted.

About the author

William “Billy” Brown

William “Billy” Brown
Billy, at home in Scotland

Billy is a Scottish engineer, author and musician who spent more than thirty years working around the world before he ever thought of himself as a writer.

He writes from lived experience rather than theory — about work, love, distance, and the quieter lessons a working life hands over.
