From the opening pages
I want to tell you something plainly before we go any further, because I think the honesty matters more than the comfort of dressing it up. My knees stopped being reliable enough to trust behind a wheel a few years back, and these days, Ann-Marie drives me everywhere. Ann-Marie, who is four years younger than my own eldest daughter.
I’ve sat with that sentence a long time before being ready to write a book about it.
